In your book "Conversations with Ellie Wiesel" you question an individuals role for being "your brother's keeper", is there ever a "line" that can be crossed where the individual is doing to much?

What is, in your opinion, the best ideology, or way of thinking, to live life by?

In the book “Conversations with Elie Wiesel,” you say that “it would have been normal to hate the killers and the accomplices” after the Holocaust, but somehow you felt no hatred towards them. Could you describe what kept you from hating those offenders after all that you have been through?

There is little doubt that technology has connected the world, but at the same time it seems to be tearing our humanity away from us, and replacing it with ignorance. You have said, "We are careless," but how would you begin bringing those simple human qualities that the current generations, especially our generation, have lost, back to our society and our now interconnected world?

At the end of Chapter 8 in "Night", you claimed that you had "betrayed" your ailing father because you ultimately felt a sense of being "free at last" after he passed on - even though you cared for him so much throughout your ordeal. Do you still feel guilty about this?

Considering events such as the Holocaust, the ethnic cleansing during the Bosnian War, the Rawandan genocide, or the current situation in Darfur, do you think that we will ever be able to move past hate and stop massacring our fellow humans? If so, how and when?

In your book "Conversations with Elie Wiesel" you reflect on the proper role of the state in our lives, and you advocate for moral states. My question is, how is a moral state "moral" if by being one the acceptance of other fates becomes impossible? Whose morality are you referring to?

I know you were good friends with Senator Tom Lantos for many years and with his passing the reality of the rapidly dwindling number of Holocaust survivors sets in. What can our generation do to carry on your message in the years to come?

How has your experience in the concentration camps, both ones you've experienced personally and ones you've observed other people gone through, changed your view on God and his love for us?

How do you feel about the current government in Israel and do you see a solution for the conflict in the Middle East?

Though it still occurs all over the world, people seem to view genocide as a thing of the past. How do we keep the memories of the holocaust alive enough so that people feel a more urgent need to end the world’s current genocide, like that in Darfur, and prevent anything like this from occurring in the future?

There is so many atrocities and genocide occuring in the world today. However, we've supposedly learned from the atrocities of WWII and the Nazis. Why do you believe genocide is still continuing?

Julia Hillbrand said...

It is common knowledge that you were for America going into the Iraq war due to their acts of genocide to their own people. What do you think about the current American opinion that we no longer need to be there? What do you think this says about the American people?
